The Evolution of GIR
Over 20 years of responsible, ethical, and sustainable investment
2000
Created as a subsidiary of Demers Conseil by Sherazad Adib, François Méloche, and François Rebello, the Responsible Investment Group (GIR) begins its first research and consulting mandates for Quebec investors.
2003
GIR begins voting at general assemblies on behalf of its clients.
2004
GIR is incorporated.
2007
Olivier Gamache acquires the company and starts a digital transition by standardizing the voting process.
2009
Launch of Integralpha platform, allowing investors to view their voting reports online.
2020
Two employees, Étienne Lamy and Thomas Estinès, take over from Olivier Gamache, who remains the chairman of the board. GIR acquires SHARE's voting contracts in exchange for equity. GIR becomes the primary 100% Canadian voting agent serving responsible investors from Vancouver to Halifax.

The Management

Étienne Lamy
Co-Chief Executive Officer
Étienne Lamy joined GIR in 2018 and became Co-CEO in 2020. As the head of proxy voting operations, Étienne made a significant contribution by utilizing his exceptional organizational skills. Under his leadership, our team at GIR has successfully increased the number of meetings voted on, while maintaining the quality of our reports. Additionally, Étienne oversees all of our IT systems. He holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from Laval University, as well as a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from the University of Quebec in Montreal. Étienne is particularly passionate about social economy and its impact on society. During his years of study, he actively contributed to various non-profit organizations, taking on leadership roles and supporting philanthropic causes.

Thomas Estinès
Co-Chief Executive Officer
Thomas Estinès joined the company in 2013, where he held successive positions as an analyst, then as Chief Analyst and Director of Operations. He is notably responsible for the GIR's research and consulting activities. He holds an MBA from St. John's University (New York) as well as a Master's in Environmental Management from the Excelia Group (formerly Sup de Co La Rochelle). He has been actively involved in the sustainable finance community for several years as a mentor and volunteer with various organizations such as CIRANO and the Initiative for Sustainable Finance-Finance Montréal.

Salomé Testot-Ferry
Chief Analyst
With an international background and diverse experience, Salomé Testot-Ferry holds a bachelor's degree in International Business and a master's degree in Economics from Concordia University. Her commitment has been shaped through her involvement with organizations such as UNICEF Rwanda, Journey House Africa, and the Syrian Kids Foundation. Since February 2023, she has been leveraging her expertise and passion for responsible investment at GIR, where she analyzes the environmental impact of companies, contributes to improving financial and corporate practices, and participates in the company's development.

Antoine Salhab
Environmental Analyst
Antoine Salhab, an analyst at GIR, holds a Master's degree in Environmental and Sustainable Development from the University of Montreal. He has gained solid expertise in sustainability, developing responsible strategies and assessing the environmental impact of Canadian and international companies. At GIR, he conducts in-depth ESG analyses and provides voting recommendations aligned with investor expectations. His methodological rigor and commitment to sustainability make him a key asset in supporting companies through their transition to responsible practices, while addressing current environmental, social, and governance challenges.

Johanne Therrien
Social Analyst
Johanne Therrien joined GIR in January 2001 as a proofreader, a role that quickly expanded to include that of a writer, and a few years later, an analyst. She holds a Bachelor's degree in French Studies, including a major in literary studies and a minor in French language and literature from the University of Sherbrooke. She also studied sociology at the University of Montreal. She comes from the Quebec student movement and participated in the think tank "Le Pont entre les générations."

Doris Patiño
Administrative Assistant
Doris Patiño joined GIR in September 2008 as a secretary-receptionist. She graduated from Ceipa University in Colombia, where she studied Personnel Administration. She also holds a professional office administration certificate from Info-technique College, which she completed in Longueuil in 2007.
